Newbie Guide to Cloth
Starting Out
If you are brand-new to cloth diapering, you probably are asking yourself, what should I buy?
If you have never used cloth diapers before, start slowly. If you are just wanting to try CD'ing out, I'd recommend purchasing an AIO or pocket diaper. They are the most similar to a 'sposie, so even Dad & Grandma will be willing to use it.
If you are determined to start cloth diapering full time, I'd recommend buying at least one-half dozen prefolds, one or two fitteds, three or four covers, and then a few pockets and AIO's. This would be for about a one-day supply of diapers for a baby about 4-12 months (add a few more fitteds, 1/2 dozen prefolds, and another cover or two, for a newborn or baby under 4 months).
Once you have a variety, you will probably find yourself gravitating more and more toward one style of cloth diaper. When you notice this, then you know which kind you should purchase next. This decision varies from baby to baby and family to family. Remember, babies come in all shapes & sizes - chubby, skinny, big belly, bean pole legs - and just because your friend or sister swears by her style and brand of cloth diaper, doesn't mean that it will work on your baby.
